PeopleNet Systems Compliant With Revised Hours Rules: Customer OTAP Plans In Progress

MINNEAPOLIS - September 30, 2005 - Tomorrow, October 1, 2005, the revised hours of service rules published by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will go into effect. For the past two years, the agency has been under a court order to revise and update the rules, which regulate how long truck drivers can operate a commercial motor vehicle.

PeopleNet, the leading provider of onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the nation's transportation industry, has announced that its on-board communications platform has been updated to comply with the new rules.

"We have been monitoring the government's progress on the rules and have worked tirelessly to update our system so our customers wouldn't skip a beat as the new rules went into effect and are enforced," says Ron Konezny, Chief Operating Officer of PeopleNet.

Customers operating PeopleNet systems are being notified of the updates and deployment is underway through the company's Over-the-Air-Programming (OTAP) feature.

"We are working to make the PeopleNet system update as easy as possible for every one of our fleet customers as they have many other issues to deal with regarding the new rules" says Konezny. "We are the first, and to date, the only mobile communications provider that can deliver these, and any operating updates, to our customers wirelessly. That allows them to keep operating without experiencing any downtime."
