PerformX engine monitoring data drives vehicle and driver performance improvements

LAS VEGAS and MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 6, 2009-PeopleNet® (www.peoplenetonline.com), a provider of innovative Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for effective fleet management, today announced that its PerformX® engine monitoring system is fully compatible with Hino engines in their medium-duty trucks (Class 4-Class 7), model years 2008-2010. Steve Chiodo, Hino Trucks Senior Manager of Field Service, commented about the announcement, which was made at the American Trucking Association's 2009 Management Conference and Exhibition being held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center in Las Vegas, October 4-7. "The importance of telematics to fleet managers can't be over emphasized. It is a distinct competitive advantage for optimizing operational efficiency, and we are pleased PeopleNet can offer our customers to install this capability," he said.

PerformX hardware connects the PeopleNet onboard computer with Hino's engine diagnostic port, allowing it to collect engine performance data for creating various PerformX reports in the system. PeopleNet Product Manager Tom Dorazio explained, "PerformX data feeds speed, shifting, and idle management information to PeopleNet's MPG dashboard, its Professional Services ROI program, as well as other PeopleNet applications that support driver compliance, safety and improvements in operational efficiency."

The PeopleNet system is installed in a demonstration vehicle at Hino's North American headquarters in Michigan.
