12.17.08 - PeopleNet Canada Helps to Speed Border Crossings for Sykma Expressway Ltd.
(December 17, 2008) PeopleNet Canada has helped Sykma Expressway Ltd. of Quebec, Quebec, earn validation for C-TPAT, reducing hassle and lost time at U.S. border crossings. C-TPAT is the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terror, a voluntary supply chain security program that, among other things, enables faster processing by customs officials at U.S/Canadian border crossings.
Sykma Expressway is a commercial flatbed carrier that serves Canada and the U.S. PeopleNet Canada is Canada's leading provider of intelligent onboard communications and fleet management solutions.
"We are C-TPAT certified and it is a great help at the border," said Robert Simard Jr., operation manager for Sykma Expressway.
Sykma Expressway provides a full range of haulage services for wood, steel, aluminum and heavy machinery throughout its service area. The company operates 21 trucks.
"We're very pleased that we were able to help Sykma Expressway Ltd. join the C-TPAT program. We've done the same for many other fleets," said Jamie Williams, president, PeopleNet Canada. "And the same tools that make PeopleNet an asset for C-TPAT qualification make fleet operations as efficient as possible and increase customer service at the same time."
PeopleNet is the first mobile communications system for Sykma Expressway Ltd, which began business in 1998. PeopleNet has enabled Sykma Expressway Ltd to closely monitor trucks and performance -- everything from driver speed to delays at customer sites. For example, PeopleNet reports can easily verify customer detention billing.
According to Simard, Sykma Expressway has used PeopleNet's PerformX® application to track and help control fuel costs. "I see a great improvement in fuel economy," he said.
"Since we got PeopleNet in 2005, it has been a great benefit to us. It's awesome," Simard concluded.
